Superstructures of the North

Presented by Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt

What visionary forces are behind a building that has existed for centuries? What stories do the superstructures of the north tell us about the people who built them, the times and political upheavals they have withstood, about the hopes and longings associated with them?
Hubertus Meyer-Burckhardt embarks on a journey of discovery to the superstructures of the north. From Hildesheim Cathedral to the Kiel Canal, from the mines of Rammelsberg to Schwerin Palace.
Dramatic and lively historical enactments portray the legends and stories behind these buildings and structures. The presenter talks to experts to find out more about the architecture, engineering ingenuity and turbulent history of northern Germany.
