70 years after the GDR popular uprising of June 17, 1953, and 175 years after the German Revolution of 1848, the documentary traces Germany’s long road to democracy. ZDF presenter and MrWissen2go Mirko Drotschmann goes in search of traces at historical locations and asks: What significance do the democratic achievements of history still have today? Key moments include the overthrow of the German Empire to the Weimar Republic in 1918/19, the struggle for the Basic Law in 1949 and the peaceful revolution of 1989.
