Even before we are born, we experience incredible things. But we don’t remember them. Even the unborn child in the womb develops complex perceptions and a memory, its brain reacts to the mother’s feelings. Before we are born, we live under oxygen conditions like on Mount Everest. And at birth, what has happened over millions of years of evolution takes place: the change from life in water to life in air. Illustrated as a manga character, Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim embarks on a diving trip around the baby in its mother’s womb in a graphic novel. Award-winning photos and highly emotional video recordings document the biggest event in our lives: birth.
