Death Trap Mallorca

Joy and Sorrow in Exile

After Hitler’s rise to power, the sunny Balearic island of Mallorca became the refuge of many German emigrants. Not only in Palma, but also in the small fishing village of Cala Ratjada they realized their dream of a safe life in the island paradise. But then, in mid-July 1936, Franco staged a coup against the Republic and the refugees’ dream suddenly became a nightmare.
