This is the story about one of the largest ports in the world, its people and their ideas. It is a story about merchants and their merchandise, emigrants and their dreams, workers and their fight for survival. But wars and epidemics as well as floods and fires have left their marks.
The scenic documentary shows how the Port of Hamburg struggled through the epochs – through colonisation, industrialisation, digitalisation and their consequences. It not only tells about a part of German history but also a part of global history.
