In this latest documentary on the topic of fleeing, Markus Lanz embarks on a journey to explore the complex reality of migration. He wants to understand what it means to leave one’s home country. His search for clues takes him to civil war-torn Syria, where he experiences the causes of migration at first hand. As well as to Senegal, where he meets people whose only hope is the dangerous crossing to Europe by boat.
But what does the dream of Europe really feel like? And how do the people who have made it fare? Markus Lanz wants to find out in southern Italy. He meets with those affected on the ground, listens to their stories and asks the pressing questions. Experts also have their say and assess the events in order to paint a comprehensive picture of the migration crisis and the dilemma of European refugee policy.
