After having visited the USA in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election, Markus Lanz examines in his second America documentary how people are doing one year after the election.
“Make America great again!” is Donald Trump’s campaign slogan. But for whom does this promise come true? Who has benefited from his politics so far? What about Trump’s great promises? Markus Lanz visits the “Swing State” Ohio, which had clearly decided in favour of Trump, and looks around in working class towns like Warren in Trumbull County. In Arizona he meets rangers and ranchers on the border to Mexico and looks around in Charlottesville in the state of Virginia, the place that has become the involuntary symbol of the “Old Right” movement.
A road trip by Markus Lanz to unvarnished America: what do people think about the state of their country – one year after the election?
