In the fifth season of the “Fascination of Water” series, marine biologist and research diver Uli Kunz explores two habitats that could hardly be more different: In the episode about water-filled caves, he descends into a dark and magical world. In the underworld of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, the divers explore places that few people have ever seen. In the Alps, Uli descends with cave explorers into what is possibly the deepest diving cave in Germany, and in a diving mine he shows what is important in cave rescue. In the episode on lakes, Uli Kunz presents an extremely diverse habitat: Lakes cover just under two percent of the Earth’s surface – and yet they are crucial to life on our globe. Their number is unevenly distributed, but there is hardly a region without them. From the Scandinavian lake archipelago to Lake Constance and the African salt lakes to the Great Lakes in North America.
