The Airport in the Middle of Nowhere

A History of Gander International

Once the world’s largest airport, Gander International was a global hub for aviation, a listening post during the Cold War, a loophole to the west and a refuge for stranded passengers during the 9/11 attacks. Today the former giant has fallen into oblivion.

In addition to looking back at the history and stories, The Airport in the Middle of Nowhere tells how the inhabitants of Gander have to move step by step away from the great world stage, the crossroads of the world, and reinvent themselves and their homeland.
