It is the most complex structure known to us in the entire universe: our brain. A grey mass that houses an impenetrable network of around 86 billion nerve cells and carries all the thoughts, feelings and memories of a lifetime. Deciphering it is as challenging for researchers as understanding the universe. In a two-part documentary for Terra X, Dr Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim shows why it is so darned complicated and what is happening in current brain research. On her expeditions into the brain, she dives into laboratories and travels back in time to the history of brain research. The great thinkers are played by comedian Michael Kessler.
