Volcanoes both threaten and fascinate us. They can destroy entire regions and create new landscapes and whole islands. In some places they mean death and extinction, in others they give life to entire communities. Often, they can mean both.
Approximately 1900 volcanoes around the world are believed to be active, from Indonesia to Chile, from Italy to Japan. We are surrounded by them, as it were.
Our documentary explains the different types of volcanic eruption and shows how people try to live with them and protect themselves against them.
