Always online, always on the move, never missing anything, being everywhere – that’s FOMO, the Fear of missing out. Fueled by social media, it can become an obsession, an addiction. How can I free myself from this pressure and how can FOMO become JOMO, the Joy of missing out? Compared to others, we often have the feeling that our own lives are less exciting or successful. This fear, the Fear of missing out, can cause a lot of psychological pressure. What solutions can be found to counter this? Harald Lesch and Thomas Schwartz try to find answers. At Kochberg Castle near Weimar, where Goethe visited Charlotte von Stein, they also consider whether FOMO is just a modern phenomenon or whether this feeling was already known in Goethe’s time – without any social media.
