The human body is a living laboratory. For there is not a moment when chemical processes do not take place within us. But how did all this come about? The elements of life are found everywhere in the universe. Everything that exists on earth comes from stardust. But what chain of coincidences led to the fact that life could develop from chemical building blocks here of all places?
“Should we eventually understand what exactly it takes for life to emerge from lifeless chemical building blocks, we may also be able to answer HOW crazy it is that we breathe and live on this Earth,” says Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim. “Is it just a matter of the right physical conditions? Then we can assume that there is more life out there somewhere. Or is what happened here on Earth an insane coincidence? An insane stroke of luck?”
