The conclusion of the series takes a critical look at the development of modern capitalism – from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and the rise of the British Empire in the 18th century to the contrasts between today’s superpowers, the USA and China. Over the past 200 years, the economy and prosperity have grown as never before, at least in the Western world. But the global logic of growth has also created new inequalities – and is increasingly threatening the very foundations of life on our planet.
