In 1525, a storm of outrage swept across the southwest. Exploited farmers rose up against their suppressors. Rebellions broke out everywhere. The insurgents were inspired by Martin Luther, who had defied the Emperor at the Imperial Diet of Worms: “A Christian man is the most free lord of all, and subject to none.” The rebellious peasants were convinced that God would support their “just cause”. But will faith in God alone be enough to withstand the mighty rulers?
