Mass migration shakes up ancient Europe. In western Europe, migrants soon determine the way of life. Germanic tribes, who seek refuge in the Roman Empire, become the dominant force. They enjoy the Roman lifestyle – and gladly adopt the culture of the Imperium Romanum. In the East, Christianity is gaining ground. The city now known as Istanbul becomes the centre of European Christendom.
